14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 162, between lines 23 and 24,
16  
17  insert:  
18         Section 107.  A district school board may procure
19  transportation for public-school students by contract with a
20  private vendor. These contracts may be awarded pursuant to
21  negotiation and need not be procured by competitive bids. Any
22  school district that provided transportation for public-school
23  students during any portion of the year 2000 under contracts
24  negotiated without competitive bidding must continue to
25  provide such transportation under contracts negotiated without
26  competitive bidding until July 1, 2005.
