14 On page 3, between lines 9 & 10,

16 insert:
17 Section 3. (1) There is created at Seminole Community
18 College a Workforce Development Technology Center. The
19 purpose of the center shall be:
20 (a) To increase the capacity of the state to recruit
21 and retain technology-based companies.
22 (b) To bridge the gap between the demand for and the
23 supply of trained, highly qualified employees in the
24 information technology workforce.
25 (c) To train highly qualified employees in the
26 information technology workforce.
27 (d) To address regional and state needs related to
28 business and community growth.
29 (e) To provide 21st century technology skills to all
30 citizens in order to reduce the digital divide between those
31 who do and do not have access to today's technology.

1 (f) To support and expand the outreach of current
2 education and workforce development initiatives.
3 (2) The efforts of the center shall include, but not
4 be limited to:
5 (a) The use of technology to position the state and
6 region as an international center for technology-based
7 businesses;
8 (b) Promoting access to technology to provide citizens
9 with the necessary technology literacy to become productive
10 and contributing members of the digital economy;
11 (c) Making effective use of the center by Seminole
12 Community College through strategic partnerships with
13 organizations, including, but not limited to, the University
14 of Central Florida, the Florida High-Tech Corridor Council,
15 the University of South Florida, Daytona Beach Community
16 College, Florida Community College - Jacksonville, the City of
17 Lake Mary, Lake Sumter Community College, the City of Sanford,
18 the Seminole County Board of Commissioners, the Seminole/Lake
19 Mary Regional Chamber of Commerce, Valencia Community College,
20 and Workforce Florida, Inc.;
21 (d) Promoting student academic achievement and
22 workforce readiness through career counseling, job shadowing,
23 and academic instruction integrated with technology;
24 (e) Offering distributed learning through multiple
25 channels, including classroom instruction, technology-based
26 programs, and web-based instruction;
27 (f) Equipping the center with advanced technologies
28 for classroom applications; and
29 (g) Acquiring access to advanced technologies and
30 communications.
