1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to public records; providing an
3 exemption from public-records requirements for
4 information relating to abandoned property
5 which is contained in reports to the Department
6 of Banking and Finance under s. 717.117, F.S.;
7 providing for future review and repeal;
8 providing findings of public necessity;
9 providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Report of abandoned property; public
14 records exemption.--The information contained in the reports
15 required under section 717.117, Florida Statutes, is
16 confidential and exempt from section 119.07(1), Florida
17 Statutes, and Section 24(a), Article I of the State
18 Constitution. This section is subject to the Open Government
19 Sunset Review Act of 1995 in accordance with section 119.15,
20 Florida Statutes, and shall stand repealed October 2, 2006,
21 unless reviewed and saved from repeal through reenactment by
22 the Legislature.
23 Section 2. The Legislature finds that the exemption
24 from public-records requirements provided in this act is a
25 public necessity and that to make such information available
26 would be an unwarranted invasion of the privacy of the person
27 furnishing information to the Department of Banking and
28 Finance pursuant to section 717.117, Florida Statutes.
29 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
