3 97.055, F.S.; prescribing times when voter
4 registration books must be open; providing an
5 effective date.

7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

9 Section 1. Section 97.055, Florida Statutes, is
10 amended to read:
11 97.055 Registration books; when closed for an
12 election.--
13 (1) The registration books shall remain open during
14 the same time as the office of the supervisor of elections.
15 The registration books must remain open on election day during
16 the time the polls are open at the voting places prescribed in
17 s. 100.011. must be closed on the 29th day before each
18 election and must remain closed until after that election. If
19 an election is called and there are fewer than 29 days before
20 that election, the registration books must be closed
21 immediately. When the registration books are closed for an
22 election, voter registration and party changes must be
23 accepted but only for the purpose of subsequent elections.
24 However, party changes received between the book-closing date
25 of the first primary election and the date of the second
26 primary election are not effective until after the second
27 primary election.
28 (2) In computing the 29-day period for the closing of
29 the registration books, the day of the election is excluded
30 and all other days are included. If the 29th day preceding an
31 election falls on a Sunday or a legal holiday, the

1 registration books must be closed on the next day that is not
2 a Sunday or a legal holiday.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

7 Requires voter registration books to be open on election
day during the time the election polls are open and at
8 other times during the regular office hours of the
supervisor of elections.
