11  The Committee on Education Appropriations offered the
12  following:

14         Amendment 
15         On page 9, of the bill, between lines 3 and 4,
16  
17  insert:
18         (c)  If the participating private school requires
19  partial payment of tuition prior to the start of the academic
20  year to reserve space for students admitted to the school,
21  that partial payment may be paid by the Department of
22  Education prior to the first quarterly payment of the year in
23  which the scholarship is awarded, up to a maximum of $1,000,
24  and deducted from subsequent scholarship payments. If a
25  student decides not to attend the participating private
26  school, the partial reservation payment must be returned to
27  the Department of Education by the participating private
28  school. There is a limit of one reservation payment per
29  student per year.
