  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Daylight Saving Time;

  3         exempting the State of Florida and its

  4         political subdivisions from federal law which

  5         establishes a uniform time for an advance to

  6         Daylight Saving Time; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9         WHEREAS, the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (Pub. L. No.

10  89-387; 15 U.S.C. s. 260a) mandates a uniform and coordinated

11  system of reckoning time throughout the United States,

12  including the observance of Daylight Saving Time during the

13  summer months from 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of April until 2

14  a.m. on the last Sunday of October of each year, and

15         WHEREAS, states only may exempt themselves from

16  Daylight Saving Time by legislative act and by opting to

17  observe standard time throughout the state, NOW, THEREFORE,

18

19  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

20

21         Section 1.  Pursuant to the Uniform Time Act of 1966,

22  15 U.S.C. s. 260a, it is hereby declared that the State of

23  Florida and all of its political subdivisions are exempted

24  from the operation of said section and shall observe the

25  standard time otherwise applicable under 15 U.S.C. ss.

26  261-264, as modified by 15 U.S.C. s. 265.

27         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

28  law.
