1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to greyhound adoptions;
3 requiring dogracing permitholders to provide a
4 greyhound-adoption booth at each dogracing
5 facility in the state; requiring that
6 information concerning the adoption of a
7 greyhound be made available to the public at
8 the facility; requiring the permitholder to
9 provide adoption information in racing programs
10 and identify greyhounds that will become
11 available for adoption; authorizing the
12 permitholder to hold an additional charity day
13 that is designated as "Greyhound Adopt-A-Pet
14 Day"; requiring that profits derived from the
15 charity day be used to fund activities
16 promoting the adoption of greyhounds; providing
17 an effective date.

19 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

21 Section 1. Greyhound adoptions.--
22 (1) Each dogracing permitholder operating a dogracing
23 facility in this state shall provide for a greyhound-adoption
24 booth to be located at the facility and operated during the
25 hours the facility is open to the public. The
26 greyhound-adoption booth must be operated by personnel who are
27 qualified to provide information to the public concerning the
28 adoption of a greyhound. Information pamphlets and application
29 forms shall be provided to the public upon request. In
30 addition, the permitholder shall provide information
31 concerning the adoption of a greyhound in each race program

1 and shall post adoption information at conspicuous locations
2 throughout the dogracing facility. Any greyhound that is
3 participating in a race and that will be available for future
4 adoption must be noted in the race program. The permitholder
5 shall allow greyhounds that are available for adoption to be
6 walked through the track facility and to be identified as
7 available for adoption.
8 (2) In addition to the charity days authorized under
9 section 550.0351, Florida Statutes, a greyhound permitholder
10 may fund the greyhound-adoption program by holding a charity
11 racing day designated as "Greyhound Adopt-A-Pet Day." All
12 profits derived from the operation of the charity day must be
13 used to fund activities at the racing facility which promote
14 the adoption of greyhounds.
15 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

18 SENATE SUMMARY
19 Requires greyhound racing permitholders to provide
information at each dogracing facility concerning the
20 adoption of a greyhound. Requires that the racing program
contain adoption information and identify greyhounds in a
21 race which will become available for adoption. Authorizes
the permitholder to hold an additional charity day,
22 designated as "Greyhound Adopt-A-Pet Day," and use the
profits from the charity day to fund activities promoting
23 greyhound adoptions.
