  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to telecommunications services;

  3         amending s. 364.01, F.S.; requiring the Florida

  4         Public Service Commission to exercise its

  5         powers to ensure reasonable and affordable

  6         rates for such services; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 364.01, Florida

12  Statutes, is amended to read:

13         364.01  Powers of commission, legislative intent.--

14         (1)  The Florida Public Service Commission shall

15  exercise over and in relation to telecommunications companies

16  the powers conferred by this chapter. The commission shall

17  exercise such powers to ensure reasonable and affordable rates

18  for telecommunications services.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
