1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to continuing dental education;
3 amending s. 456.031, F.S.; providing an
4 alternative by which licensees may comply with
5 a general requirement that they take
6 domestic-violence education courses; amending
7 s. 456.033, F.S.; providing an alternative by
8 which licensees may comply with a general
9 requirement that they take AIDS/HIV education
10 courses; providing an effective date.

12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
13
14 Section 1. Subsection (3) of section 456.031, Florida
15 Statutes, is amended to read:
16 456.031 Requirement for instruction on domestic
17 violence.--
18 (3)
19 (a) In lieu of completing a course as required in
20 subsection (1), a licensee or certificateholder may complete a
21 course in end-of-life care and palliative health care, if the
22 licensee or certificateholder has completed an approved
23 domestic violence course in the immediately preceding
24 biennium.
25 (b) In lieu of completing a course as required by
26 subsection (1), a person licensed under chapter 466, who has
27 completed an approved domestic-violence education course in
28 the immediately preceding 2 years may complete a course
29 approved by the Board of Dentistry.
30 Section 2. Subsection (9) of section 456.033, Florida
31 Statutes, is amended to read:

1 456.033 Requirement for instruction for certain
2 licensees on human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune
3 deficiency syndrome.--
4 (9)(a) In lieu of completing a course as required in
5 subsection (1), the licensee may complete a course in
6 end-of-life care and palliative health care, so long as the
7 licensee completed an approved AIDS/HIV course in the
8 immediately preceding biennium.
9 (b) In lieu of completing a course as required by
10 subsection (1), a person licensed under chapter 466 who has
11 completed an approved AIDS/HIV course in the immediately
12 preceding 2 years may complete a course approved by the Board
13 of Dentistry.
14 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
17 Senate Bill 1788

19 The Committee Substitute amends the AIDS/HIV continuing
education requirements for certain health care professionals
20 in s. 456.033, F.S., to provide a licensed dentist or dental
hygienist the option of completing a course approved by the
21 Board of Dentistry in lieu of an AIDS/HIV course for licensure
renewal, if the licensed dentist or dental hygienist has
22 completed an AIDS/HIV course in the immediately preceding 2
years.
