18 (d) A person holding a certificate as a general
19 radiographer may not perform nuclear medicine and radiation
20 therapy procedures, except as provided herein. A person who is
21 a general radiographer certified pursuant to this part who
22 receives additional training and skills in radiation therapy
23 technology procedures as referenced herein may assist with
24 managing patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments if
25 that assistance is provided to a person registered with the
26 American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiation
27 therapy who is also certified pursuant to this part as a
28 radiation therapy technologist. Both the general radiographer
29 and the radiation therapy technologist must perform these
30 radiation therapy services under the general supervision of a
31 physician licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459 who is

1 trained and skilled in performing radiation therapy
2 treatments. The radiation therapy technologist identified in
3 this paragraph may not delegate any function to the general
4 radiographer that could reasonably be expected to create an
5 unnecessary danger to a patient's life, health or safety. The
6 general radiographer identified under this paragraph may not,
7 however, perform the following services while assisting the
8 radiation therapy technologist: radiation treatment planning,
9 calculation of radiation therapy doses, administration of
10 radiation therapy doses, or any of the duties of a medical
11 physicist. The general radiographer identified under this
12 paragraph must successfully complete a training program in the
13 following areas before assisting with radiation therapy
14 technology duties:
15 1. Principles of radiation therapy treatment;
16 2. Biological effects of radiation;
17 3. Radiation exposure and monitoring;
18 4. Radiation safety and protection;
19 5. Evaluation and handling of radiographic treatment
20 equipment and accessories;
21 6. Patient positioning for radiation therapy
22 treatment. In addition, a A general radiographer may
23 participate in additional approved programs as provided by
24 rule of the department.
