2 A concurrent resolution naming the legislative
3 clinic in honor of Dr. Edward G. Haskell, Jr.
4
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Edward G. Haskell, Jr., founded the
6 concept of health care for stressed-out, time-pressed
7 legislators by voluntarily serving their health care needs
8 during sessions of the Legislature in the mid and late 1960's,
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Haskell was the philosophical designer of
11 the concept of a legislative clinic and the "Doctor for the
12 Day" program during legislative sessions, and
13 WHEREAS, the first legislative clinic opened early in
14 1967 in an unused portion of a supply room serving the Florida
15 House of Representatives, and
16 WHEREAS, a terrible outbreak of influenza in 1967 and
17 the passage of Senate Bill 135-X, Extraordinary Session,
18 January 29, 1968, to February 16, 1968 which created the Joint
19 Legislative Management Committee, combined to make a permanent
20 fixture of the legislative clinic, and
21 WHEREAS, in the first few years of its existence, Dr.
22 Haskell offered invaluable assistance to the clinic and its
23 patients by lending his time, advice, and prescription
24 support, NOW, THEREFORE,

26 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida, the
27 House of Representatives Concurring:

29 That the legislative clinic, established in 1967, is
30 named the "Dr. Ed Haskell Legislative Clinic."

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the 2001
2 Legislature of the State of Florida express their gratitude to
3 Dr. Edward G. Haskell, Jr., for his pioneering leadership and
4 unselfish contributions to the health of colleagues of the
5 past and for his perseverance in helping to establish the
6 legislative clinic.
