  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing March 30, 2001, as

  3         Doctors' Day in the Florida Senate.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Doctors' Day was first observed in 1933 on the

  6  day that also commemorates the first administration of

  7  anesthesia by a physician in 1842, and

  8         WHEREAS, the medical profession holds a special place

  9  in the hearts of Americans, and

10         WHEREAS, Doctors' Day provides an opportunity for

11  physicians and patients to set aside the distractions of

12  today's health-care environment and focus on the medical

13  profession's contribution to society, and

14         WHEREAS, most physicians work long and unpredictable

15  hours, and many must cope with the conflicting demands of work

16  and family life, and

17         WHEREAS, the Florida Medical Association sponsors the

18  Doctor of the Day program that provides volunteer physicians

19  during the regular legislative sessions to provide medical

20  care for the legislators, staff, and others, and

21         WHEREAS, physicians devote their lives to caring for

22  people and make special contributions to our society and

23  culture, and

24         WHEREAS, a red carnation has become the symbol of

25  Doctors' Day because it denotes the qualities of love,

26  charity, sacrifice, bravery, and courage and is worn by

27  physicians and their spouses, NOW, THEREFORE,

29  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  1         That the Florida Senate recognizes March 30, 2001, as

  2  Doctors' Day.

  3         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

  4  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the

  5  Florida Medical Association as a tangible token of the

  6  sentiments of the Florida Senate.
