  1                    Senate Resolution No. ___

  2         A resolution recognizing "Relay for Life Days"

  3         in the City of Altamonte Springs.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society has asked the

  6  citizens of the City of Altamonte Springs to join in its

  7  "Relay for Life" scheduled for March 23-24, 2001, at Lake

  8  Brantley High School, in a communitywide exhibit of caring in

  9  which funds will be realized for transportation, durable

10  medical equipment, and other needs of victims of cancer, and

11         WHEREAS, the Relay for Life is opened amid the cheers

12  and encouragement of onlookers as survivors walk or run the

13  emotion-laden first lap, thus setting the tone and emphasizing

14  the significance of the event, and

15         WHEREAS, after this dramatic beginning, the Relay for

16  Life continues as participants form teams and take 30-minute

17  to 2-hour shifts on the track, and

18         WHEREAS, in an impressive ceremony that honors cancer

19  survivors and calls to remembrance those who have lost the

20  battle against this dread disease that is no respecter of

21  persons, luminaries are lighted and left burning throughout

22  the night as a visual reminder of the importance of the

23  contributions being made by all who take part in any way in

24  the Relay for Life, and

25         WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the heroic efforts of

26  all those who participate in the Relay for Life be recognized

27  and honored, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1         That the Florida Senate pauses in its deliberations to

  2  recognize "Relay for Life Days" in the City of Altamonte

  3  Springs on March 23-24, 2001, and to applaud the efforts of

  4  all who take part in this event of support for those who have

  5  been in any way touched by cancer.
