  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution commending the North Florida

  3         Christian School football team for its 2000

  4         football season.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the North Florida Christian School Eagles

  7  football team, after suffering a defeat in their opening game,

  8  ended the 2000 regular season with a record of 8 and 1 and

  9  ultimately won 13 consecutive regular and post season games, a

10  new school record, to win the district, regional, and state

11  class 1A Championships, and

12         WHEREAS, the North Florida Christian School Eagles

13  football team defeated Polk County's Fort Meade High School in

14  the final seconds of the Class 1A championship game, on a pass

15  from Robert Craft to Eugene Hampton, to win their third

16  consecutive State Class 1A Championship, and their fourth in

17  five seasons, and

18         WHEREAS, the members of the North Florida Christian

19  School Eagles football team have set laudable examples by

20  their performance on the football field, by their achievements

21  in the classroom, and by their example as role models, as

22  exemplified by Senior Josh Walker, who was recently recognized

23  by the Florida High School Activities Association for

24  attaining a grade point average of 4.066, and

25         WHEREAS, the North Florida Christian School Eagles

26  football team, and particularly the 14 seniors, made the 2000

27  season special as they honored Christ on and off the gridiron,

28  and

29         WHEREAS, the North Florida Christian School Eagles

30  football team has brought honor and recognition to their

31  school, their community, and this state, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  2

  3         That the Florida Senate commends the North Florida

  4  Christian School Eagles football team, Head Coach Tim Cokely,

  5  Assistant Coaches David King, Sandy Davenport, Landon

  6  O'Connell, Matt Ray, Joe Roberts, Mark Johnson, and Billy

  7  Blair and trainer Phillip Burnett for their outstanding

  8  accomplishments in bringing the North Florida Christian School

  9  Eagles football team to state prominence and excellence in

10  football and preparing them for life's journey.

11         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

12  with the seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the North

13  Florida Christian School Eagles football team and to Coach Tim

14  Cokely as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida

15  Senate.
