  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing the contributions of

  3         the Greater Miami Host Committee, Inc., to

  4         Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Host Committee, Inc.,

  7  celebrates its 20th Anniversary as the first host committee

  8  incorporated in the State of Florida, and

  9         WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Host Committee, Inc., is a

10  nonprofit, civic organization, established in 1981, whose

11  mission is to provide services for those signature events

12  which promote the tourism, industry, business, trade and

13  commerce, culture, education, governmental relations,

14  international affairs, and community and economic development

15  of Miami-Dade County to local, national, and international

16  markets, and

17         WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Host Committee has defined

18  its role of service and set the standards for hosting

19  signature events by encouraging the support of corporate,

20  public, and private partners who have demonstrated an ongoing

21  commitment to the committee and Miami-Dade County, and

22         WHEREAS, the committee's events provide an opportunity

23  for community building, recreation, publicity for economic

24  growth, and a means by which people may express a sense of

25  pride and promote the common good and welfare, civic

26  betterment, and social improvements, and

27         WHEREAS, the committee is committed to embracing

28  Miami-Dade County's global connections by hosting

29  international signature events that promote hospitality,

30  goodwill, trust, intercultural communications, and

31  international exchange, and

  1         WHEREAS, the committee, over the past 20 years, has

  2  hosted and introduced Miami-Dade County to billions the world

  3  over by launching such signature events as Miss U.S.A., Miss

  4  Universe, the 63rd U.S. Conference of Mayors, ASTA, Sabado

  5  Gigante, Super Bowl XXIX, Miss Collegiate Black America, the

  6  Miami International Rowing Regatta, Fashion Week of the

  7  Americas, The Big Orange New Year's Eve Celebration, the

  8  largest free family New Year's Event in South Florida, and the

  9  Miami-Dade Millenium Celebration, and

10         WHEREAS, the committee, chaired by Monty P. Trainer,

11  has hosted the Miami-Dade Days in Tallahassee for 13 years,

12  promoting the needs of Miami-Dade County and presenting its

13  World Famous "Paella Fest" to statewide and international

14  leaders, NOW, THEREFORE,

16  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

17

18         That the Florida Senate recognizes the Greater Miami

19  Host Committee, Inc., for its contributions to Miami-Dade

20  County and the State of Florida.
