  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Marion County; prohibiting

  3         watercraft within specified areas of Lake Weir

  4         from proceeding at greater than "no-wake"

  5         speeds; requiring the board of county

  6         commissioners to erect signs; directing the

  7         Marion County Sheriff to enforce the

  8         prohibition; providing penalties; providing an

  9         effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  The waters of Lake Weir, Marion County,

14  within 500 feet of the shoreline of the lake and within 500

15  feet of the shore of Bird Island are designated a preserve.

16  Within this area watercraft must proceed at idle speed. The

17  Marion County Board of County Commissioners shall erect signs

18  within the preserve area designated by this act; such signs

19  must contain the prohibition "NO WAKE" and the statement

20  "VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED." Violation of this act

21  constitutes a noncriminal violation and is punishable as

22  provided in section 775.083, Florida Statutes. The Sheriff of

23  Marion County is responsible for enforcing this act.

24         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2001.
