  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution honoring the University of Miami

  3         Hurricane football team.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, the University of Miami is a premier

  6  educational institution, offering excellence in academic, as

  7  well as athletic, pursuits, and

  8         WHEREAS, the University of Miami Hurricane football

  9  team boasts an impressive history as the first team in the

10  State of Florida to win an NCAA Division I-A national

11  championship and as the state team having the most NCAA

12  Division I-A national championships, and

13         WHEREAS, the Hurricane football team defeated Florida

14  State University 27 to 24 on October 7 during the 2000 regular

15  season, and

16         WHEREAS, the Hurricane football team defeated the

17  University of Florida 37 to 20 in the Nokia Sugar Bowl on

18  January 2 following the 2000 football season, NOW, THEREFORE,

20  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

22         That the Florida Senate recognizes the University of

23  Miami Hurricane football team as the champions of the State of

24  Florida for the 2000 football season.

25         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

26  with the seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the

27  University of Miami as a tangible token of the sentiments and

28  congratulations of the Florida Senate.
