  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution recognizing April 22nd, 2001, as

  3         "Day of Tolerance" in observance of Yom HaShoa

  4         (Holocaust Day).

  6         WHEREAS, the Jewish community observes the remembrance

  7  of the Holocaust each year on the 27th day of the Hebrew month

  8  of Nisan, corresponding this year to the 22nd day of April

  9  2001, and

10         WHEREAS, the Holocaust was a defining moment in history

11  with implications for all mankind, and

12         WHEREAS, it is incumbent on all people to learn from

13  the lesson of the Holocaust and fight the potential for hatred

14  and bigotry in society, and

15         WHEREAS, it is our sacred challenge to call upon the

16  good that is in each of us and to reach out to others in

17  brotherhood and understanding, and

18         WHEREAS, we should remember the atrocities committed by

19  Nazi Germany and their collaborators and recognize that each

20  of us must remain eternally vigilant against all tyranny, NOW,

21  THEREFORE,

23  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

24

25         That the Florida Senate recognizes April 22, 2001, as a

26  "Day of Tolerance" to coincide with the observance of Yom

27  HaShoa (Holocaust Day), so that all Floridians may unite in

28  memory and resolve to learn from history in our common quest

29  for mutual respect and understanding.
