  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution honoring Rabbi Stanley J. Garfein

  3         as the spiritual leader of the congregation of

  4         Temple Israel of Tallahassee for the past 35

  5         years.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, Stanley J. Garfein will, at the time of his

  8  retirement in August 2001, have served as the Rabbi of Temple

  9  Israel of Tallahassee for 35 years, and

10         WHEREAS, as the spiritual leader of Temple Israel of

11  Tallahassee, Rabbi Garfein has provided a congregation away

12  from home for many government officials, legislators, and

13  justices and judges, including U.S. Senator Richard Stone,

14  Florida Supreme Court Justices, England, Erlich, and Kogan,

15  District Court of Appeal Judge Charles Kahn, and Attorney

16  General Robert Shevin who became active members of Temple

17  Israel of Tallahassee during the time they lived in

18  Tallahassee during their years of government service, and

19         WHEREAS, Stanley J. Garfein has, on numerous occasions,

20  offered the opening prayer at sessions of the Florida Senate

21  and the Florida House of Representatives, and at meetings of

22  the Florida Cabinet, and

23         WHEREAS, Rabbi Stanley J. Garfein has been a vigorous

24  advocate for social justice, NOW, THEREFORE,

25

26  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

27

28         That the Florida Senate offers its congratulations and

29  best wishes to Rabbi Stanley J. Garfein as he retires from 35

30  years of active service as Rabbi of Temple Israel of

31  Tallahassee.

  1         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

  2  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Rabbi
