1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution urging Congress to adopt
3 prescription drug coverage for all Medicare
4 beneficiaries.

6 WHEREAS, prescription drugs have become an integral
7 part of modern medicine with private health insurance
8 companies incorporating adequate coverage for prescription
9 drugs, and
10 WHEREAS, Medicare still does not provide coverage for
11 most drugs as part of its benefit package, and
12 WHEREAS, three out of every ten Medicare beneficiaries
13 have no insurance coverage for prescription drugs and those
14 with supplemental drug insurance face high premiums and
15 restricted coverage, and
16 WHEREAS, 26 states have already enacted state
17 pharmaceutical assistance programs to provide some drug
18 coverage to fill the void left by federal inaction, and
19 WHEREAS, President Bush has proposed the Immediate
20 Helping Hand initiative to provide funds to states for drug
21 coverage for Medicare beneficiaries who are least able to pay
22 for needed prescriptions, NOW, THEREFORE,

24 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
25
26 That the Congress of the United States is urged to
27 provide prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries
28 either through enactment of legislation based on the Immediate
29 Helping Hand initiative or one of the several Congressional
30 proposals providing pharmaceutical financial assistance for
31 seniors.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
2 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be transmitted to the
3 President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
4 United States House of Representatives, to each member of the
5 Florida Delegation to the United States Congress, and to the
6 President of the United States.
