  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Florida Retirement

  3         System; amending s. 121.0515, F.S.; revising

  4         language with respect to special risk

  5         membership to include members who supervise or

  6         are command officers of members who are

  7         emergency medical technicians or paramedics;

  8         providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11

12         Section 1.  Paragraph (d) of subsection (2) of section

13  121.0515, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

14         121.0515  Special risk membership.--

15         (2)  CRITERIA.--A member, to be designated as a special

16  risk member, must meet the following criteria:

17         (d)  The member must be employed by a licensed Advance

18  Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) employer as an

19  emergency medical technician or a paramedic and be certified

20  in compliance with s. 401.27. In addition, the member's

21  primary duties and responsibilities must include on-the-scene

22  emergency medical care or direct supervision of emergency

23  medical technicians and paramedics, or the member must be the

24  supervisor or command officer of a member or members who have

25  such responsibilities. However, administrative support

26  personnel, including, but not limited to, those whose primary

27  responsibilities are in accounting, purchasing, legal, and

28  personnel, shall not be included;

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
