1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to compulsory school
3 attendance; amending s. 232.01, F.S.;
4 establishing a 2-year pilot program in the
5 Miami-Dade school district in which the
6 compulsory school attendance age will be
7 lowered to include those children who have
8 attained the age of 5 years by a certain date;
9 requiring an appropriation; limiting
10 implementation to the extent specifically
11 funded in the General Appropriations Act;
12 providing an effective date.

14 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

16 Section 1. Subsection (2) of section 232.01, Florida
17 Statutes, is renumbered as subsection (3) and a new subsection
18 (2) is added to said section to read:
19 232.01 School attendance.--
20 (2) The Miami-Dade school district shall conduct a
21 2-year pilot program, beginning in the 2001-2002 school year,
22 which shall require all children in that district who have
23 attained the age of 5 years, who will have attained the age of
24 5 years by February 1 of the current school year, or who are
25 older than 5 years of age but who have not attained the age of
26 16 years to attend school regularly during the entire school
27 term. The Legislature shall appropriate to the Department of
28 Education funds sufficient to carry out the provisions of this
29 subsection. The requirements of this subsection shall be
30 implemented only to the extent specifically funded in the
31 General Appropriations Act.
