  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to obtaining property by false

  3         personation; amending s. 817.02, F.S.;

  4         providing that the offense of obtaining

  5         property by false personation is punishable as

  6         theft; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Section 817.02, Florida Statutes, is

11  amended to read:

12         817.02  Obtaining property by false

13  personation.--Whoever falsely personates or represents

14  another, and in such assumed character receives any property

15  intended to be delivered to the party so personated, with

16  intent to convert the property the same to his or her own use,

17  commits theft, punishable as provided in s. 812.014 shall be

18  punished as if he or she had been convicted of larceny.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
