  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to student assessment programs;

  3         amending s. 229.57, F.S.; prescribing a time

  4         for administration of the FCAT examination;

  5         providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Subsection (14) of section 229.57, Florida

10  Statutes, is amended to read:

11         229.57  Student assessment program.--

12         (14)  RULES.--The State Board of Education shall adopt

13  rules pursuant to ss. 120.536(1) and 120.54 to implement the

14  provisions of this section. The board shall provide, by rule,

15  that the FCAT be administered as late in the school year as is

16  practicable for the results to be received before the end of

17  that school year.

18         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

21                          SENATE SUMMARY

22    Provides for the FCAT assessment examination to be given
      as late in the school year as possible and still have the
23    results available before the end of the school year.
