  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to district school personnel;

  3         amending s. 231.40, F.S.; providing for use of

  4         employees' sick leave by their family members

  5         who also are district employees; providing an

  6         effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Paragraph (e) is added to subsection (3) of

11  section 231.40, Florida Statutes, to read:

12         231.40  Sick leave.--

13         (3)  PROVISIONS GOVERNING SICK LEAVE.--The following

14  provisions shall govern sick leave:

15         (e)  Use by family member.--Each district school system

16  must provide a policy under which a district employee may

17  authorize his or her spouse, child, parent, or sibling who is

18  also a district employee to use sick leave that has accrued to

19  the authorizing employee.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.

23                          SENATE SUMMARY

24    Requires school districts to provide a system under which
      an employee may allow his or her sick leave to be used by
25    his or her spouse, child, parent, or sibling, so long as
      that relative is also a district employee.
