  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to elections; amending s.

  3         100.011, F.S.; providing for opening and

  4         closing of the polls simultaneously in the

  5         state's eastern and central time zones;

  6         providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 100.011, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         100.011  Opening and closing of polls, all elections;

13  expenses.--

14         (1)  The polls shall be open at the voting places at

15  7:30 a.m. eastern time and 6:30 a.m. central time 7:00 a.m.,

16  on the day of the election, and shall be kept open until 7:30

17  p.m. eastern time and 6:30 p.m. central time 7:00 p.m., of the

18  same day, and the time shall be regulated by the customary

19  time in standard use in the county seat of the locality.  The

20  inspectors shall make public proclamation of the opening and

21  closing of the polls.  During the election and canvass of the

22  votes, the ballot box shall not be concealed.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
