18         Section 54.  Paragraph (d) of subsection (3) and
19  paragraph (c) of subsection (6) of section 468.302, Florida
20  Statutes, are amended to read:
21         468.302  Use of radiation; identification of certified
22  persons; limitations; exceptions.--
23         (d)  A person holding a certificate as a general
24  radiographer may not perform nuclear medicine and radiation
25  therapy procedures, except as provided herein. A person who is
26  a general radiographer certified pursuant to this part who
27  receives additional training and skills in radiation therapy
28  technology procedures as referenced herein may assist with
29  managing patients undergoing radiation therapy treatments if
30  that assistance is provided to a person registered with the
31  American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiation

HOUSE AMENDMENT Bill No. SB 782, 1st Eng. Amendment No. 31f (for drafter's use only) 1 therapy who is also certified pursuant to this part as a 2 radiation therapy technologist. Both the general radiographer 3 and the radiation therapy technologist must perform these 4 radiation therapy services under the general supervision of a 5 physician licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459 who is 6 trained and skilled in performing radiation therapy 7 treatments. The radiation therapy technologist identified in 8 this paragraph may not delegate any function to the general 9 radiographer that could reasonably be expected to create an 10 unnecessary danger to a patient's life, health or safety. The 11 general radiographer identified under this paragraph may not, 12 however, perform the following services while assisting the 13 radiation therapy technologist: radiation treatment planning, 14 calculation of radiation therapy doses, administration of 15 radiation therapy doses, or any of the duties of a medical 16 physicist. The general radiographer identified under this 17 paragraph must successfully complete a training program in the 18 following areas before assisting with radiation therapy 19 technology duties: 20 1. Principles of radiation therapy treatment; 21 2. Biological effects of radiation; 22 3. Radiation exposure and monitoring; 23 4. Radiation safety and protection; 24 5. Evaluation and handling of radiographic treatment 25 equipment and accessories; 26 6. Patient positioning for radiation therapy 27 treatment.
