  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to health insurance; amending

  3         s. 627.6685, F.S.; exempting the state employee

  4         health insurance program from mental health

  5         coverage requirements; repealing s.

  6         627.6685(5), F.S., which provides that s.

  7         627.6685, F.S., does not apply to benefits

  8         provided on or after a specified date;

  9         providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Paragraph (c) is added to subsection (3) of

14  section 627.6685, Florida Statutes, to read:

15         627.6685  Mental health coverage.--

16         (3)  EXEMPTIONS.--

17         (a)  This section does not apply to any group health

18  plan, or group health insurance coverage offered in connection

19  with a group health plan, for any plan year of a small

20  employer as defined in s. 627.6699.

21         (b)  This section does not apply with respect to a

22  group health plan, or health insurance coverage offered in

23  connection with a group health plan, if the application of

24  this section to such plan or coverage results in an increase

25  in the cost under the plan or for such coverage of at least 1

26  percent.

27         (c)  This section does not apply to the state employee

28  health insurance program.

29         Section 2.  Subsection (5) of section 627.6685, Florida

30  Statutes, is repealed.

  1         Section 3.  This act shall take effect September 30,

  2  2001.

  6    Provides that s. 627.6685, F.S., relating to mental
      health insurance coverage, does not apply to the state
  7    employee health insurance program. Repeals s.
      627.6685(5), F.S., which specifies that s. 627.6685,

      on or after September 30, 2001.
