  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring 2000 Heisman Trophy

  3         winner Chris Weinke.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Chris Weinke is the first quarterback to start

  6  three seasons for the Florida State University Seminoles

  7  football team under Head Coach Bobby Bowden, and

  8         WHEREAS, Chris Weinke was instrumental in leading the

  9  Seminoles to the NCAA National Championship game each of the

10  three seasons he started, finishing his college football

11  career as only the second quarterback in NCAA Division 1A

12  history to throw for more than 9,500 yards, with a total of

13  9,839 yards and 79 touchdown passes, a career average of 8.89

14  yards per attempt, and a win/loss record of 32 and 2, and

15         WHEREAS, in 1999, Chris Weinke led the Seminoles to

16  their second national title and Coach Bobby Bowden's first and

17  only perfect 12-0 season, and over the course of his career

18  set 26 school records, as well as the Atlantic Coast

19  Conference record for career passing yards, and he owns the

20  first, second, and fourth best passing games in FSU history,

21  and

22         WHEREAS, for the 2000 season, Chris Weinke was named

23  the ACC Player of the Year, the ACC Offensive Player of the

24  Year, All-ACC First Team, and All-ACC Academic Team, and was

25  the recipient of several awards, including the ESPY for

26  College Player of the Year, the Davey O'Brien Award, and the

27  Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, which is awarded to the top senior

28  quarterback in college football, and

29         WHEREAS, before capping his college football career

30  with his second National Championship appearance in a row,

31  Chris Weinke was awarded the 2000 Heisman Trophy, thus

  1  designating him as one of the best athletes in college

  2  football history, NOW, THEREFORE,

  4  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  5  Florida:

  7         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

  8  deliberations to honor the accomplishments and the person of

  9  Florida State University quarterback Chris Weinke, the winner

10  of the 2000 Heisman Trophy and the best college football

11  athlete of the 2000 season.

12         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

13  be presented to Chris Weinke as a tangible token of the

14  sentiments expressed herein.
