  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution acknowledging May 6-12, 2001, as

  3         National Nurses Week.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, there are 2.2 million registered nurses in the

  6  United States, comprising the nation's largest group of health

  7  care professionals, and

  8         WHEREAS, the skills of highly trained professional

  9  nurses are indispensable in the care of hospitalized patients,

10  as well as in providing for the complex health care needs

11  emerging in a wide range of settings among the populations of

12  our communities all across America, and

13         WHEREAS, demand for the safe, high-quality,

14  cost-effective health care provided by registered nurses is

15  becoming noticeably more evident in light of an

16  ever-increasing and aging population, the continuing

17  development of life-sustaining technology, and the explosive

18  growth in home health services, and

19         WHEREAS, the education and holistic focus of the

20  registered nurse is geared toward the restoration and

21  maintenance of health in the individual and the family and, as

22  the voice for the nation's registered nurses, the American

23  Nurses Association is promoting a renewed emphasis on the

24  provision of primary health care and preventive health care

25  measures, and

26         WHEREAS, while devoting more attention to primary and

27  preventive health care services will greatly benefit the

28  health and well-being of the public, such a direction will

29  require better utilization of the nation's existing force of

30  nursing professionals and will create a demand for increased

31  numbers of registered nurses to meet future needs, and

  1         WHEREAS, the American Nurses Association, joined by the

  2  Florida Nurses' Association, has declared the week of May

  3  6-12, 2001, to be National Nurses Week, NOW, THEREFORE,

  4

  5  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  6  Florida:

  7

  8         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

  9  deliberations to honor the nation's registered nurses,

10  extending particular recognition and gratitude to those

11  skilled professionals serving within the State of Florida, and

12  requests that all residents unite with this body, the American

13  Nurses Association, and the Florida Nurses' Association in

14  celebrating the week of May 6-12, 2001, as National Nurses

15  Week.
