2 A resolution honoring the Black Affairs
3 Advisory Council.

5 WHEREAS, formed in 1979 and officially recognized by
6 the Social Security Administration in 1981, the Black Affairs
7 Advisory Council (BAAC) is a voluntary organization which
8 works to improve employment opportunities and training
9 programs for African Americans, and
10 WHEREAS, the mission of the BAAC is to continue the
11 efforts and goals of the Social Security Administration in
12 providing equal employment opportunity, training, and upward
13 mobility for African Americans and to help find ways to ensure
14 that the African-American community receives the full range of
15 quality services available through programs administered by
16 the administration, and
17 WHEREAS, the BAAC serves to advise the Commissioner of
18 the Social Security Administration on ways to promote and
19 stimulate the development and monitoring of affirmative action
20 and career development programs for African Americans and to
21 monitor, encourage, and improve services to the
22 African-American community, and
23 WHEREAS, the BAAC works together with other advisory
24 groups and forms coalitions in order to effect and facilitate
25 changes in Social Security Administration policy that are of
26 mutual concern, translating matters of wide applicability into
27 recommendations in meetings with the Commissioner of the
28 Social Security Administration, NOW, THEREFORE,

30 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
31 Florida:

1 That the House of Representatives extends sincerest
2 appreciation to the Black Affairs Advisory Council for its
3 service to the African-American community in Florida and
4 nationwide as it strives to enhance and improve opportunities
5 for African Americans.
