1 House Resolution
2 A resolution designating August 19-25, 2001,
3 "Community Health Center Week."

5 WHEREAS, there are a significant number of citizens in
6 Florida who are currently medically underserved for a number
7 of reasons, the most prominent of which include geographical
8 isolation, financial and language barriers, and an
9 insufficient number of health care providers, and
10 WHEREAS, community health centers are private,
11 nonprofit corporations that provide high-quality comprehensive
12 primary health care to medically underserved people in
13 Florida, and
14 WHEREAS, it is critical that community health centers
15 remain viable providers of primary health care throughout
16 Florida by providing a host of support services, including
17 transportation, translation, nutrition counseling, and health
18 education programs, and
19 WHEREAS, community health centers empower communities
20 to develop programs to meet their specific needs, strengthen
21 communities to enhance opportunities for children and
22 families, and provide health care services in accessible
23 low-cost environments, and
24 WHEREAS, community health centers improve access to
25 quality health care in areas that are unserved or underserved
26 and promote individual health awareness in their communities
27 by offering primary preventive health care to help reduce
28 preventable deaths, costly disabilities, and communicable
29 diseases, and

1 WHEREAS, community health centers will continue to
2 provide a medical home to thousands of uninsured Floridians,
3 and
4 WHEREAS, community health centers promote 100 percent
5 access and zero health disparities to help achieve accessible,
6 affordable primary health care for everyone, NOW, THEREFORE,
7
8 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
9 Florida:

11 That the Florida House of Representatives hereby
12 proclaims the week of August 19-25, 2001, as "Community Health
13 Center Week," and urges citizens to recognize the important
14 contributions of Florida's community health centers to the
15 improvement of the quality of life for more than 430,000
16 citizens of the state.
