2 A resolution designating April 2001 "Florida
3 Organ Donation Awareness Month."

5 WHEREAS, organ transplants have saved the lives of many
6 Floridians, and
7 WHEREAS, between 1990 and 1999, the number of Americans
8 waiting for organ transplants increased from over 21,000 to
9 over 72,000, and
10 WHEREAS, approximately 15,000 people received organ
11 transplants in 1990, compared to the just-over 21,000 organ
12 transplants performed in 1999, and
13 WHEREAS, while the increase in the number of
14 transplants is encouraging, the waiting list continues to grow
15 disproportionately, and
16 WHEREAS, organ donation is a gift of life and
17 symbolizes the American spirit, and the promotion of organ
18 donation may help save thousands of lives, and
19 WHEREAS, the week of April 15 through 21 has been
20 designated "National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week,"
21 NOW, THEREFORE,

23 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
24 Florida:

26 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
27 deliberations to honor the memory of the many Floridians who
28 have died waiting for organ transplants and to thank those who
29 have given this wonderful gift of life in the hope of saving
30 others.
