1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the accomplishments of
3 Florida's Hometown U.S.A. participants.

5 WHEREAS, Florida's Hometown U.S.A., an educational
6 youth program organized in 1986, plays a significant role in
7 the development of young people in the State of Florida by
8 encouraging their active involvement in home, church, school,
9 and community activities, and
10 WHEREAS, recognizing that today's students will carry
11 with them into tomorrow's society those values and skills
12 learned in their youth, Florida's Hometown U.S.A. seeks out
13 five young women each year and provides them opportunities to
14 represent their hometowns while performing volunteer service
15 throughout the state, and
16 WHEREAS, opportunities for service have run the gamut
17 from distributing toys to youngsters in children's hospitals
18 to entertaining residents of nursing homes and retirement
19 centers, from sharing smiles with patients of veterans'
20 hospitals to participating in sing-alongs with lonely seniors,
21 and from distributing food to needy families to acting as
22 Grand Marshals in the Walt Disney World Parade, and
23 WHEREAS, in addition to having received recognition
24 from the President of the United States, as well as from the
25 Vice President, the First Lady, and the United States
26 Congress, the young representatives of Florida's Hometown
27 U.S.A. have been commended by the Governor, the Florida
28 Legislature, and the state Department of Commerce, and
29 WHEREAS, especially meaningful during their year of
30 service is the annual trip to the State Capital, where the
31 young women are conducted on a tour of the Capitol and shown

1 points of interest around the city, with emphasis on state
2 government and the history of Florida, and
3 WHEREAS, the five outstanding representatives of
4 Florida's Hometown U.S.A. for the year 2001 are Helen
5 Yousefzadeh, from Jacksonville; Ashley Lamendola, from Largo;
6 Krista Thorburn, from Coral Springs; Katie Hill, from
7 Leesburg; and Anna Racine Hall, from Clearwater, NOW,
8 THEREFORE,

10 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
11 Florida:

13 That the House of Representatives enthusiastically
14 recognizes Florida's Hometown U.S.A. participants for the year
15 2001 as extraordinary examples of the state's fine young
16 ladies and extends to them its sincere good wishes in their
17 future endeavors.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
19 be presented to each of these young people as a tangible token
20 of the sentiments expressed herein.
