1 House Resolution
2 A resolution commemorating the life of Dale
3 Earnhardt and designating July 3, 2001, as
4 "Dale Earnhardt Day" in Florida.

6 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt was born on April 29, 1951, in
7 Kannapolis, North Carolina and died on February 18, 2001, in
8 Daytona Beach, Florida, and
9 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt, during his racing career of
10 675 starts, 76 wins, 280 top-five finishes, and 427 top-ten
11 finishes, earned the nickname, "The Intimidator" because of
12 his aggressive driving style and unrelenting will to reach
13 victory lane, and
14 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt was named Rookie of the Year in
15 1979, his first year of NASCAR racing, won the NASCAR Winston
16 Cup Championship the following year, and ultimately won seven
17 Winston Cup Championships, tying him with Richard Petty for
18 the most championships, and
19 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt was the all-time NASCAR money
20 winner with over $42 million in career winnings, the only
21 six-time winner of the Busch Clash, the only three-time winner
22 of the Winston All Star Race, the five-time NMPA Driver of the
23 Year, the four-time winner of the IROC title, twice named
24 American Driver of the Year, and the first American driver to
25 receive the Autosports Gregor Grant Award, and
26 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt finally won the Daytona 500 in
27 1998 on his 20th attempt, and
28 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt was killed in a tragic accident
29 on the last lap of the Daytona 500 in 2001, and

1 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt's success both on the racetrack
2 and in life was a living example of the philosophy of doing
3 what you love and doing it better than anyone else, and
4 WHEREAS, Dale Earnhardt's untimely death was a loss to
5 his family, his associates, his fans, and the public, NOW,
6 THEREFORE,

8 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
9 Florida:

11 That the House of Representatives hereby honors Dale
12 Earnhardt for one of the greatest careers in the history of
13 NASCAR racing and designates July 3, 2001, as "Dale Earnhardt
14 Day" in the State of Florida.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
16 be transmitted to Mrs. Teresa Earnhardt as a tangible and
17 lasting token of the sentiments expressed herein.
