  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution urging the continued protection of

  3         Florida's Gulf of Mexico coastline.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Florida's seashores and natural beauty are

  6  natural resources enjoyed by the entire world, and

  7         WHEREAS, the citizens of Florida have consistently

  8  shown their commitment to the protection of these

  9  irreplaceable natural resources, and

10         WHEREAS, the economy of Florida is based in large part

11  on the desire of people the world over to share in this

12  natural beauty, and

13         WHEREAS, plans by the Federal Government to auction

14  leases for the exploration of oil and natural gas off the

15  coastline of Florida have been recently announced, and

16         WHEREAS, such exploration creates an unacceptable risk

17  to the exceptional natural resources of Florida, NOW,

18  THEREFORE,

20  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

21  Florida:

22  

23         That the Florida House of Representatives opposes any

24  move to allow exploration or drilling for oil or natural gas

25  within the Eastern Planning Area of the Gulf of Mexico.

26         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution

27  be transmitted to United States Department of Interior

28  Secretary Gale Norton and to each member of the Florida

29  delegation to the United States Congress.
