  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to totally and permanently

  3         disabled persons; amending s. 196.202, F.S.;

  4         reducing the number of physicians required to

  5         certify a total and permanent disability for

  6         certain purposes; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Section 196.202, Florida Statutes, is

11  amended to read:

12         196.202  Property of widows, widowers, blind persons,

13  and persons totally and permanently disabled.--Property to the

14  value of $500 of every widow, widower, blind person, or

15  totally and permanently disabled person who is a bona fide

16  resident of this state shall be exempt from taxation.

17  Notwithstanding s. 196.012(11) and for purposes of this

18  section, the provision, by any totally and permanently

19  disabled person entitled to the exemption in this section, of

20  a certificate of such disability from a single doctor who is

21  licensed in this state, or from the United States Department

22  of Veterans Affairs or its predecessor, to the property

23  appraiser of the county in which the property is located is

24  prima facie evidence of entitlement to such exemption.

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

26  law.
