1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing the hard work of the
3 citizens of this state following the election
4 held on November 7, 2000, and urging the
5 discontinuation of partisan attacks.

7 WHEREAS, this state and the United States of America
8 experienced on November 7, 2000, the closest presidential
9 election in history, and
10 WHEREAS, since November 8, 2000, thousands of
11 Floridians have worked tirelessly and effectively to ensure
12 that the votes cast in this state were counted accurately and
13 completely under extreme circumstances and with the entire
14 world watching, and
15 WHEREAS, the results of this 2000 Presidential Election
16 were contested in the state and federal courts, and
17 WHEREAS, understandably, this election contest has
18 stirred partisan passions on all sides of the issue and across
19 the political spectrum, and
20 WHEREAS, these partisan passions have led to increasing
21 and repeated attacks on members of the legislative, executive,
22 and judicial branches of government, including members of
23 county canvassing boards throughout the state, and
24 WHEREAS, the balance of government provides for a
25 system of checks and balances and invites debate and scrutiny
26 of the decisions made by officers of these branches of
27 government, but does not invite personal attacks, and
28 WHEREAS, these attacks have become personal in nature
29 and have gone beyond the acceptable realm of debate, NOW,
30 THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
2
3 That the Florida Senate finds these attacks to be
4 harmful, offensive, divisive, unnecessary, and unwarranted.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Florida Senate
6 recognizes the hard work of its citizens, does not condone
7 these personal attacks on the three branches of government,
8 and urges all those involved in this public debate to cease
9 the malicious ad hominem attacks.
