  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to compensation of state

  3         officials and employees; prescribing the salary

  4         rate for specified state officials and

  5         employees; providing an expiration date and an

  6         effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law

11  to the contrary, each state employee whose annual state salary

12  for the 2001-2002 fiscal year exceeds $90,000 shall be paid

13  for the remainder of that fiscal year at the salary rate for

14  his or her position as it existed on June 30, 2001.  In

15  addition, the salary of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor,

16  the members of the Cabinet, and the heads of all departments

17  of the executive branch shall be that which existed on June

18  30, 2001.  This section does not apply to state employees

19  within the Career Service class or state employees within the

20  classification and pay plan authorized under section

21  240.209(2)(f), Florida Statutes.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect January 1, 2002,

23  and expires June 30, 2002.

26                          HOUSE SUMMARY

      For the remainder of the 2001-2002 fiscal year, reduces
28    the salary of each state employee who earns in excess of
      $90,000 annually to the salary for that position for the
29    2000-2001 fiscal year and also reduces the salary of the
      Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the members of the
30    Cabinet, and agency heads of the executive branch to that
      for the 2000-2001 fiscal year.  Exempts certain
31    employees.  See bill for details.
