1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution honoring the dedication of
3 American rescue workers from many states of the
4 Union who responded to the crisis following the
5 terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001,
6 expressing gratitude in particular to those who
7 went to New York City, Washington, D.C., and
8 Pennsylvania from Florida, and recognizing
9 September 11 of each year as "Florida Rescue
10 Workers' Day."

12 WHEREAS, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001,
13 resulted in an unprecedented loss of innocent civilian life on
14 American soil, and
15 WHEREAS, public safety officers immediately responded
16 at the locations of the attacks, in New York City, Washington,
17 D.C., and Pennsylvania, and were responsible for saving many
18 lives, and
19 WHEREAS, the selfless dedication of many of these
20 rescue workers led to the tragic loss of their lives, and
21 WHEREAS, 343 New York City Firefighters, 23 New York
22 City Police Officers, and 37 Port Authority of New York and
23 New Jersey Officers either died or are still missing, and
24 WHEREAS, 24 Urban Search and Rescue Teams from all over
25 the United States, including 72 members of Florida's Search
26 and Rescue Teams, quickly reported to the affected areas to
27 support local rescue and clean-up efforts and to help take the
28 place of the rescue workers who had fallen in the line of
29 duty, and
30 WHEREAS, the efforts of these individuals, and their
31 immediate response at the affected areas, led to the loss of

1 still more rescue workers' lives in the service of their
2 fellow Americans, NOW, THEREFORE,
3
4 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
5
6 That, in recognition of the sacrifices made by these
7 rescue workers in the face of unthinkable tragedy, the Florida
8 Senate recognizes September 11 of each year as "Florida Rescue
9 Workers' Day."
