  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Florida Motor Vehicle

  3         Theft Prevention Trust Fund; amending s.

  4         860.158, F.S.; providing directives for the use

  5         of moneys in the fund; providing an effective

  6         date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (2) of section 860.158, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         860.158  Florida Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Trust

13  Fund.--

14         (2)(a)  Money in the trust fund shall be expended as

15  follows:

16         1.(a)  To pay the authority's cost to administer the

17  board and the trust fund.

18         2.(b)  To achieve the purposes and objectives of this

19  act, which may include, but not be limited to, the following:

20         a.1.  To provide financial support to law enforcement

21  and correctional agencies, prosecutors, and the judiciary for

22  programs designed to reduce motor vehicle theft and to improve

23  the administration of motor vehicle theft laws.

24         b.2.  To provide financial support for federal and

25  state agencies, units of local government, corporations, and

26  neighborhood, community, or business organizations for

27  programs designed to reduce motor vehicle theft and to improve

28  the administration of motor vehicle theft laws.

29         c.3.  To provide financial support to conduct programs

30  designed to inform owners of motor vehicles about the

31  financial and social cost of motor vehicle theft and to

  1  suggest to those owners methods for preventing motor vehicle

  2  theft.

  3         d.4.  To provide financial support for plans, programs,

  4  and projects consistent with the purposes of this act.

  5         (b)  For the 2001-2002 fiscal year only, and

  6  notwithstanding s. 320.08046, the use of funds allocated to

  7  the Florida Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Trust Fund shall be

  8  as provided in Senate Bill 110-B or similar legislation. This

  9  paragraph expires July 1, 2002.

10         Section 2.  This act shall take effect January 1, 2002.
