1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution expressing support for the U.S.
3 Government and President George W. Bush and our
4 Armed Forces in the war against terrorism;
5 expressing sympathy for the victims of the
6 September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and their
7 families and friends; and saluting the heroic
8 actions of men and women who have struggled to
9 rescue the victims of the attacks.

11 WHEREAS, the September 11 terrorist attacks on our
12 country have shocked and saddened us all and brought acute
13 suffering to thousands of American families, and families
14 throughout the world, who lost loved ones in these attacks,
15 and
16 WHEREAS, these attacks and their subsequent devastation
17 have presented striking new challenges to our country's people
18 and their leadership, and
19 WHEREAS, the courage demonstrated by those on the front
20 lines in the aftermath of these attacks, particularly the New
21 York City firemen and policemen who risked, and in hundreds of
22 cases lost, their lives attempting to rescue those in the
23 World Trade Center Towers, has shown us the fortitude required
24 in the struggle against terrorism, and
25 WHEREAS, the war against terrorism now being waged will
26 require America's focus for many years, and
27 WHEREAS, the nature of this war differs from previous
28 wars fought, and requires our firm determination now and in
29 the future, and
30 WHEREAS, our national leaders have shown great resolve
31 in the days since September 11, responding with wisdom and

1 determination to safeguard our country from the immediate and
2 long-range threats of terrorism against America through a
3 program of worldwide diplomatic consensus-building, with
4 focused and aggressive military preparations, and with
5 appropriate plans to protect the American Home Front, and
6 WHEREAS, we all must set an example for the American
7 people and peoples everywhere in assuring our citizens of all
8 faiths their right to worship peacefully, and
9 WHEREAS, the sacrifices that we must now make on behalf
10 of this war against terrorism will challenge us all but will
11 create a new ground for patriotic unity in our nation and for
12 extended alliances with other nations who share our dream of a
13 world free from terror and ideological oppression, and
14 WHEREAS, we stand united and resolved to win the war
15 against terrorism and to banish terrorism's evil violence,
16 NOW, THEREFORE,

18 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

20 That the Florida Senate sends its heartfelt condolences
21 to the victims of the September 11 attacks and to their
22 families and friends and its deep respect and appreciation to
23 the heroic rescue workers, healthcare workers, volunteers, and
24 officials, as well as to our military men and women and their
25 families who will fall victim on the battlefield while serving
26 our country, and affirms the policies set in place to
27 recognize our common cause with people of all religions
28 everywhere who oppose terrorism, and stands firm in its
29 support for President Bush and the U.S. Government in the war
30 against terrorism.
