2 A resolution commemorating the 100th
3 anniversary of Goodwill Industries on January
4 30, 2002.

6 WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries was founded in Boston in
7 1902 and has grown to become the largest nonprofit provider of
8 employment and training services in this country, and
9 WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries provides employment,
10 job-training, and career services for people who are disabled
11 or who face other disadvantages, such as welfare dependency,
12 illiteracy, a criminal history, or homelessness, and
13 WHEREAS, in order to fund its work, Goodwill Industries
14 collects donated clothing and household goods and sells these
15 items in more than 1,700 retail stores throughout North
16 America and the world, and
17 WHEREAS, on January 30, 2002, Goodwill Industries
18 celebrates its 100th anniversary and during this 100 years has
19 helped more than 5 million people through its programs and
20 services, and
21 WHEREAS, during the 2001 calendar year, 94,589
22 Floridians participated in the employment and training
23 services of Goodwill Industries and 20,937 Floridians obtained
24 community employment, and
25 WHEREAS, the Florida Goodwill Association, the nine
26 Goodwill member organizations located throughout this state,
27 collectively generated $234,979,815 in earnings for people
28 placed in community employment, resulting in a significant
29 contribution to the state's economic base and tax revenues,
30 NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
2
3 That the Florida Senate congratulates the Florida
4 Goodwill Association on the occasion of its 100th anniversary
5 and commends the organization for its valuable programs, which
6 have expanded the opportunities and occupational capabilities
7 of millions of Americans.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution,
9 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
10 Reverend Mr. Donald L. Roberts, President of the Florida
11 Goodwill Association, as a tangible token of the sentiments of
12 the Florida Senate.
