  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Public Health Institute

  3         of the Miami-Dade County Health Department,

  4         Inc.; providing authority for the Miami-Dade

  5         County Health Department to establish a

  6         private, not-for-profit corporation to assist

  7         the Miami-Dade County Health Department in

  8         providing coordinated county health department

  9         services; providing for funding; providing an

10         effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14         Section 1.  Public Health Institute of the Miami-Dade

15  County Health Department, Inc.--

16         (1)  This section may be cited as the "Public Health

17  Institute of the Miami-Dade County Health Department Act."

18         (2)  It is the intent of the Legislature to enhance the

19  delivery of public health services in Miami-Dade County

20  through public-private initiatives.

21         (3)  The Miami-Dade County Health Department, a county

22  health department established pursuant to s. 154.01, Florida

23  Statutes, using available funding, is authorized to establish

24  the Public Health Institute of the Miami-Dade County Health

25  Department, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation pursuant to

26  chapter 617, Florida Statutes.

27         (4)  The Public Health Institute of the Miami-Dade

28  County Health Department, Inc., shall promote the public's

29  health by assisting the Miami-Dade County Health Department in

30  providing coordinated county health department services.

  1         (5)  The Public Health Institute of the Miami-Dade

  2  County Health Department, Inc., shall be funded using

  3  available Miami-Dade County Health Department funding, but

  4  principally through public-private partnering and such other

  5  funding sources as may be available to a not-for-profit

  6  corporate entity created pursuant to chapter 617, Florida

  7  Statutes.

  8         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.
