1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to summer food service for
3 children; creating the "Children's Summer
4 Nutrition Act"; requiring school district
5 superintendents to report to the Department of
6 Education activities or initiatives that
7 provide access to summer food service programs
8 to certain children; requiring a report to the
9 Legislature and the State Board of Education;
10 providing an effective date.

12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14 Section 1. Children's Summer Nutrition Act.--
15 (1) This section may be cited as the "Children's
16 Summer Nutrition Act."
17 (2) Each school district superintendent shall report
18 to the Department of Education any activity or initiative that
19 provides access to a food service program during school
20 vacation periods of over 2 weeks to children who are eligible
21 for free or reduced-price meals. The report shall include any
22 developed or implemented plans for how the school district
23 will sponsor, host, or vend the federal Summer Food Service
24 Program.
25 (3) The superintendent shall submit the report to the
26 Department of Education by February 1, 2003. Prior to
27 submitting the report to the Department of Education, the
28 superintendent shall report this information to the district
29 school board.
30 (4) By March 1, 2003, the Department of Education
31 shall submit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives,

1 the President of the Senate, the chairs of the education
2 committees in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and
3 the State Board of Education a report compiling the school
4 district information.
5 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.

10 The Committee Substitute for CS/SB 1314 requires school
district superintendents to report to the Department of
11 Education activities or initiatives that provide access to
summer food service programs. A report to the Legislature and
12 the State Board of Education is also required.
