1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to Children's Day; amending s.
3 683.17, F.S.; changing the designated day for
4 the celebration of Children's Day; providing an
5 effective date.

7 WHEREAS, the Legislature intends that Florida
8 Children's Day become the model for a National Children's Day,
9 NOW, THEREFORE,

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Section 683.17, Florida Statutes, is
14 amended to read:
15 683.17 Children's Day.--The first Sunday second
16 Tuesday in April of each year is designated as Children's Day.
17 On this day local communities and families, together with
18 public officials, schools, private organizations, and all
19 citizens, are encouraged to celebrate the life and blessing of
20 Florida's children with love, respect, gratitude, and
21 encouragement; both to acknowledge our Florida's children as
22 the resource giving our state it the greatest hope of future
23 excellence; to listen to children and to reaffirm our shared
24 their commitment to help Florida's children develop their
25 unique qualities, strengths, and potential, resulting in
26 greater productive capacity and enlightened citizenship; and
27 to observe this day with appropriate activities, ceremonies,
28 and programs. All citizens of the state are encouraged to wear
29 a white ribbon which shall indicate that our children are
30 considered to be special gifts and are valued for their part
31 in the circle of life.
