10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Section 26.031, Florida Statutes, is
13 amended to read:
14 26.031 Judicial circuits; number of judges.--The
15 number of circuit judges in each circuit shall be as follows:

19 Section 3. The judges filling new offices created by
20 this act shall be appointed by the Governor and shall take
21 office for a term beginning on October 1, 2002.
22 Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.

24 STATEMENT OF SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES CONTAINED IN
COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
25 Senate Bill 1654

27 -- The Committee Substitute reduces the number of new
circuit judge positions from 34 to 7, reduces the number
28 of new county judge positions from 13 to 3, and
eliminates the two district court of appeal judicial
29 positions.
30 -- The date for the creation of the judicial positions is
changed from January 2, 2003 to October 1, 2002.
