11  The Committee on Health, Aging and Long-Term Care recommended

12  the following amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 

15         On page 4, line 10, after the words "2003-2004."

17  insert:  For purposes of this subsection, a "passive birth

18  defects surveillance system" collects, combines, and compiles

19  data to identify cases involving a birth defect and an "active

20  birth defects surveillance system" identifies cases involving

21  a birth defect by the collection of and review of data and

22  involves other surveillance and research activities.
