1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to driver licenses; amending s.
3 322.031, F.S.; providing for the expiration
4 date of certain drivers' licenses issued to
5 foreign residents who are in Florida with a
6 visa; prohibiting renewal without a valid visa;
7 providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (5) is added to section 322.031,
12 Florida Statutes, to read:
13 322.031 Nonresident; when license required.--
14 (5) Any other provision of this chapter or any other
15 chapter to the contrary notwithstanding, with respect to a
16 foreign resident who has been issued a visa in this state who
17 is issued a Florida driver's license, the Florida driver's
18 license shall expire 4 years from the date of issuance or upon
19 the expiration of the visa, whichever date first occurs. A
20 person in Florida who has been issued a visa may not renew a
21 driver's license without proof of a valid visa presented to
22 the department prior to the issuance of the renewed driver's
23 license.
24 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
25 law.

2 HOUSE SUMMARY

Provides, with respect to foreign residents who are in
4 Florida with a visa and who are issued a Florida driver's
license, the driver's license shall expire 4 years after
5 the date of issuance or upon the expiration of the visa,
whichever date first occurs. Prohibits renewal of a
6 driver's license to a person who has been issued a visa
unless the person presents a valid visa at the time of
7 renewal.
