1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the Florida Civil Rights Act
3 of 1992; creating s. 760.021, F.S.; authorizing
4 the Attorney General to commence a civil action
5 to obtain damages or other relief for a civil
6 rights violation under certain circumstances;
7 providing a civil penalty; providing for
8 attorney's fees and costs; providing an
9 effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
12
13 Section 1. Section 760.021, Florida Statutes, is
14 created to read:
15 760.021 Enforcement.--If the Attorney General has
16 reasonable cause to believe that:
17 (1) Any person or group of persons is engaged in a
18 pattern or practice of discrimination; or
19 (2) Any person or group of persons has been
20 discriminated against and such discrimination raises an issue
21 of general public importance,

23 the Attorney General may commence a civil action in any
24 appropriate court for damages, injunctive relief, costs,
25 attorney's fees, civil penalties not to exceed $10,000 per
26 violation, and such other relief as may be appropriate under
27 the circumstances.
28 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
29 law.
